  • Promind Personal Development
    Mental Toughness Coach
Promind Personal Development Oct 2023 - May 2024
All local cricketers will spend time, hitting, bowling, catching, and throwing balls to help them improve their cricket performance. Not many will spend time developing their mental toughness.I run mental toughness workshops specifically for cricket clubs, that help players develop this extra, mostly neglected, dimension of their performance. These 2 x 2 hours, highly practical sessions, run at your club, will help your players overcome the mental challenges they will inevitably have while playing cricket.I run workshop 1 with Gloucestershire CCC's Chris Dent. With over 350 appearances and more than 15000 career runs to his name, he is very well placed to offer his valuable insight into coping with the mental pressures of the sport.I've run them already for Golden Hill CC (Men, Women & Girls, U17/U15 Boys), Thornbury CC (Men & Women), Bradley Stoke CC (Men) and Gloucestershire U18 girls.
  • St. Margaret'S Hospice Care
    Learning & Development Manager (Non-Clinical)
    St. Margaret'S Hospice Care Jun 2023 - Oct 2023
    Taunton, Somerset, Gb
I created a structured approach to how the team evaluated what they did. We wanted to gauge how effective we were in enabling people to apply their learning and improve their performance. This was not something the team had done before.I also worked on identifying and selecting a new learning system to support people in accessing resources in different ways. I arranged demos with providers and my existing contacts and started to build the business case for the change.I created a half-day workshop to help managers normalise conversations on mental well-being with their teams. This contained practical conversation strategies to help managers help people in their teams to think and act from better places.I worked with Women's Work Lab to become an employer partner and provide a placement for a mum to help rebuild their workplace confidence. This was a fixed-term contract role.
  • Melin Homes
    Learning & Development Business Partner
    Melin Homes Aug 2020 - May 2023
    Pontypool, Torfaen, Gb
I transformed the Melin approach to learning from a 'training' team of order takers, to a team that had a voice, respect, was involved and consulted and was getting learning talked about as a powerful way to help people grow, thrive and perform.I sourced and implemented a new LMS and built/procured high-quality content to support our new strategy, our values, an inclusive environment and to influence positive responses in future employee surveys. My approach was to make sure people had access to the learning resources they needed right when they needed them.I led on a new approach of continuous conversations and implementing a new system to embed a culture of regular 121s, short-term goals and real-time feedback. I partnered with Staff Circle and Coaching Culture to facilitate this.I supported our Senior Management Team to become more adaptable through Spotlight Profile team activities and individual development. I also facilitated workshops using Spotlight profiles with our People, Homes & Communities management team and our People team.I coached and supported the L&D Officer in the Learning Team and as a result, she significantly developed her capability and confidence to support colleagues at Melin.I designed a blended programme for people managers to develop their coaching capability - to ask powerful questions, listen empathically, build trust, give feedback and set meaningful goals. The programme supported people to become 'CHANGE Leaders' (Curious, Humble, Adaptable, Natural, Genuine and Empathic)

  • Barchester Healthcare
    Head Of Leadership Development
    Barchester Healthcare Nov 2015 - Apr 2017
    London, England, Gb
I led a team of 6 highly skilled people to provide structure around all leadership development activities at Barchester Healthcare. There was always high manager turnover, particularly care home managers, in the organisation and the team worked to support leaders at all levels to develop the behaviours to provide the highest quality care and meet key business KPI's.I designed and supported the team to run a set of masterclasses aimed at managers at different levels. These were aimed at Regional Directors, Care Home General and Deputy General Managers and focused on self-awareness and how to engage people. I developed masterclasses to increase self-awareness and develop mentoring capability in our clinical workforce to support unit managers, new nurses, care practitioners and carers in our homes and hospitals. The feedback on these was always outstanding. I introduced a new induction process for new General Managers. Turnover was always high in this area and the new induction was designed to get them onto the 'front foot' as quickly as possible in order to drive up retention and enable them to deliver outstanding care as quickly as possible. I launched the Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health & Social Care and used this qualification to develop our Deputy General Manager population with a view to creating a pool of managers of the future. I supported the development of a customer care training package to influence the reputation of Barchester in the local community and a highly effective 'Tour Host' training programme to improve the ability to show people around our homes with a view to turning an enquiry into an admission thus ensuring we operate at optimum occupancy.

  • Co-Operative Legal Services
    Lead Management Development Trainer
    Co-Operative Legal Services Mar 2013 - Jun 2014
    Manchester, England, Gb
Following an extensive training needs analysis across the company, I designed and delivered the 'Frontier' Programme to develop the capability of our managers to get the best out people. The programme was designed to improve employee engagement results and reduce absence costs. The workshops were short and very practical (2 - 3 hours) and were supported by e-learning via our 'Academy' portal. I used Insights Discovery to develop high levels of self awareness in our managers and their ability to identify the preferences of others. The programme developed the ability of managers to support the development of colleagues in their teams by identifying and reinforcing the key things that drive positive behaviour at work and in giving feedback and coaching to develop performance. We also examined processes to manage individual performance and follow key HR processes to manage attendance and behaviour at work. The programme was delivered to a diverse professional services audience that included senior executives and department heads, senior solicitors, finance managers, sales and marketing managers, strategic change managers and call centre team leaders and feedback was outstanding with results in the mid 90% and a 'net promoter' score of 95. The programme also contributed to sick days being reduced by 60% and sick pay costs reduced by £207,000 in a comparative period. The programme allowed for the audience diversity by allowing all participants to create their own meaning for the learning and plan how to make positive personal changes that drove high levels of engagement in their teams. In addition, I was a Co-operative accredited 360 feedback coach and used this tool with several individuals at all levels to help them develop greater self-awareness and develop personal plans to further their careers. I also designed and co-delivered 'lunch-time' workshops to support the embedding of the CLS performance management process. I left CLS on redundancy in Jun 2014.
  • Arla Foods (Formerly Milk Link)
    Learning & Development Manager
Arla Foods (Formerly Milk Link) Sep 2010 - Jan 2013
    Viby, Dk
My role supported the business with learning and development solutions. The team covered the 8 operational sites as well as the head office functions e.g. sales and marketing, finance and membership support. This had been a hugely neglected function at the company prior to my arrival and I worked on induction, core values, core competencies, talent management and management development. I managed an L&D team of two very skilled professionals and in autumn 2011 we designed and launched Milk Link's first management development programme, 'The Advance Programme' to approximately 190 managers. This was planned to be a 2-year programme delivered in 3 phases and we ran 17 separate programmes. Feedback from every programme was outstanding and the evaluation we carried out demonstrated clear value in terms of behaviour change, increase in sales, cost savings and improvements in the employee survey results. The programme evolved from my work in facilitating the development of a set of core values for Milk Link and then subsequently a set of management behaviours upon which the Advance Programme is based. The programme was a finalist in the John Sainsbury's Learning & Development Award category at the IGD Food Industry Awards in October 2012. I was also responsible for the identification, assessment and development of 6 trainee dairy technologists undertaking a foundation degree. I put structure around their programme and provided 1-2-1 coaching, mentoring and skills workshops to develop their skills and ensure they maximised their learning from the programme. All six completed their degrees and moved into more senior roles that utilised their new skill set. Milk Link was merged with Arla Foods on 1st October 2012. I left Arla on redundancy at the beginning of January 2013.

I delivered training all over the UK and researched, designed and delivered a highly successful and effective 3 day management workshop to over 150 managers in a 9 month period. I worked very closely with operational site and regional managers to understand their business, how they operated and measured success. I met with them regularly, attended site and regional management meetings and as a result supported the business with skills workshops, 1-2-1 coaching using 360 feedback and psychometric tools.

The project was successfully delivered and the training was of an extremely high quality.
  • Agency Express
    Self Employed Franchise Owner
    Agency Express Oct 2004 - Feb 2007
    Norwich, Norfolk, Gb
I owned the franchise that covered a geographical area that included 90% of the BA (Bath area) postcodes. This area covered Bath, Midsomer Norton, Radstock, Bradford-on-Avon, Melksham, Trowbridge, Westbury, Warminster, Frome, Shepton Mallet, Glastonbury and Street. I provided 'For Sale' board services for over 50 estate agents in this area, erecting new boards and servicing the boards as and when they needed changing, until the point at which they needed taking down. I purchased the franchise as a 'start up' operation and built the business from scratch to a successful and profitable franchise in just over 2 years. I secured new business by visiting prospective customers and selling the benefits of the service that I could provide them. I negotiated price and terms and conditions in order to agree contract terms dependant on the amount of business and the service they were looking for. I built excellent relationships with all my customers and prided myself on fulfilling 95% of all customer requests with 24 hours of receipt. I constantly developed the customer base by approaching prospective customers and through recommendation from existing clients. I successfully built up the business to a turnover of around £50k per year. I sold the business in February 2007 to pursue other options.
