Supported local Elements Massage studios, developed the brand, and greatly increased revenues. Our studios won "Best Place for a Massage in Silicon Valley" twice, and most are top listings on Yelp for massage in their cities.

Interests include social networks, social analytics, email and collaboration tools, web-scale text analytics and data mining, search, and web crawlers. Numerous patents and papers, including best paper at WWW 2003. Led the social media recommendations for the Smarter Cities Challenge in Christchurch, where we advised the city on economic growth after their devastating earthquakes.People management, project management, and team leadership. I've managed teams of up to 12 people, and taken leadership roles within teams of up to 80. Coordinated between customers, developers, researchers, and software testers. Led the technical sales, design,and delivery of a WebFountain customer project that brought in $25M revenue. Mentored three successful Extreme Blue projects, which combine three computer science students with one MBA student to do first-of-a-kind work.Software development in JSP, JavaScript, Perl, Java, C++, and others. Product delivery includes a web crawler for IBM Enterprise Information Portal, WebFountain applications, and technologies for Lotus Connections and Lotus Live. Helped develop and run an intranet social analytics application that is by tens of thousands of people and has saved IBM over $5M.

Took a leave of absence to travel through 27 countries across five continents. Explored local cultures and history, and gained a much deeper understanding of mankind.

Developed content, layout, and navigation for several major sections of leading website for musicians. Helped grow the site to over 50,000 visitors per day, back in the pioneering days of the internet when that was a big number. I was the third person to join the company, which later grew, got VC funding, and was ultimately acquired.

Developed and maintained company website, wrote application software, prepared marketing materials, and provided technical support at a small (three-person) digital signal processing hardware company.
