About Steve Dillon
Steve is a senior lecturer at QUT in the Faculty of Creative Industries Music and Sound. His research and teaching revolves around music, meaning and transformation. Teaching focuses upon cyberontological approaches to teaching and learning, musicology, ethnomusicology, songwriting, music education and experience design. He is also a Project Leader for the International Network Jamming Research Group that is developing generative media making tools for children and community arts application. His principal research interest is meaningful engagement and he currently is series editor for a Cambridge Scholars Publishing series of six books called Meaningful music making for life. The first book in the Series: Music Meaning and Transformation. Steve is founding Director of the save to DISC Research Network which links researchers and practitioners around the world in researching meaningful music making for life. Steve is Co Chair of Sweetfreedom Inc a social justice record label recently included in the UN ICCC Music as Natural Resource Compendium.Specialties: Steve specialises in innovative strategies in teaching, learning and community development through arts experience. When using web 2.0 tools such as social networks and user driven content creation this approach becomes a cyber ontological one- an approach where participants realise their own identity through collaborative creative experience and use digital tools that employ the technology as an agent in the process in the process.
