As a new paradigm of Earth System Stewardship begins to take shape, it calls for a radical reassessment in how we understand and structure our economic, political, technological and social systems, with an understanding that people and nature are entwined within socio-ecological systems. It underscores a shared reality—that our collective well-being relies on the governance of our planetary commons (i.e., Earth System Tipping Points (ESTPs), Planetary Boundaries, and other biophysical systems) that maintain the stability, resilience, and life-support functions of the Earth system.In response to this unprecedented need, I actively participate in the process of learning, interest formation and community building amongst three disciplines; Earth System Science, Earth System Governance and Earth Observation. Inspired by Donella Meadows' teachings on system leverage points, I am interested to advance this paradigm by mobilizing an Earth Observation (EO) response to the immediate governance challenge of preventing the transgression of tipping thresholds, with the long-term vision of fostering necessary remote sensing infrastructure (i.e., Acquisition, Dissemination and Intelligence) for the monitoring of our planetary commons.
