Associate Director: ItPfizer Pharmaceuticals Sep 1983 - Sep 2003Uk, Europe, JapanMy role: Team leader during Pfizer - Pharmacia merger.- Headed up a team of Pfizer employees and external consultants during the Pfizer merger with Pharmacia with responsibility for IT system integration work with the Pharmacia sites in the UK, Sweden and Denmark.- During the same period I worked as part of the team co-ordinating major budget reductions and efficiency improvements in the informatics group across Pfizer UK and USA sites. -
Senior Principal ScientistPfizer 1993 - 1999Uk, UsaMy role: Team leader in Department Veterinary Medicine.- Instigated and set up a completely new veterinary therapeutic area: To discover an anti-pruritic agent for use in companion animals to combat inflammation and itch caused by flea and atopic allergic dermatitis. I identified potential mechanisms for intervention and persuaded management to fund research. I lead the in vitro screening team (10 individuals) that developed screens capable of identifying active compounds based on our hypotheses.- During this period I identified potential academic collaborators and laboratories and helped to set-up clinical evaluation studies in USA.- The team was highly successful, discovering two compounds based on a novel mode of action that went on into clinical trials, although ultimately neither was successfully developed and made it to market.- At the end of my time with the programme, I was the scientific lead for team of 23 biologists and chemists working on lead discovery and optimisation within this area. I left Veterinary Medicine once we had discovered our two drug candidates to seek new challenges and joined the informatics group. -

This was achieved by managing a team of support specialists and working closely with the drug development teams. The role required trouble-shooting, project management, team building, business process analysis, creativity and political awareness.- This was a fascinating role, and I worked with the Darifencin team throughout their regulatory filing with the FDA and their due diligence efforts since the drug had to be sold as part of the Pharmacia merger. I supported many aspects of the business / IT interfaces, across disciplines and across sites in UK, USA and Japan. I was also involved with the Voriconazole and Inhaled Insulin teams to a lesser extent.- Managed IT support for large team off-site meetings and regulatory agency meetings (UK, USA) to allow seamless working and global teleconferencing. In this role we often worked all hours to deliver the technical support and this required a real “can do” attitude and sensitive team management.
