Ovus is the company formed from [most of] the NovaPal engineering team. Rather than put the engineers on the streets when the price of Set-Top Boxes plummetted and NovaPal had trouble meeting the bills, we all [with the exception of Steve Birkill who already had a nice business] formed Ovus and continued offering Digital TV related consultancy to Test Equipment and Professional Receiver manufacturers.

Novapal was formed to make a free-to-air set top box (an unheard of concept in the days of OnDigital). At the start of freeview, it was ideally placed with a well thought through product (thanks to the design team that had been hand-picked for their many years DTV experience) that just did the job, and did it without bothering the consumer (or, indeed, professional installer). This won it 50% of the market, beating the likes of Sony, Nokia, Panasonic, ....
