I've been working in the field of architecture since graduating from the University of Idaho in 1987. After spending 10 years working for various firms in Southern California and working on a variety of projects worldwide, I moved to Seattle in 1998. I was recently a Managing Associate and Principal in Charge at NK Architects in Seattle where I direct the office design process, help manage daily project and office needs, as well as oversee design and documentation on several of our projects. I primarily focused on mixed-use mid-rise projects with a retail component although I'm also very involved in our low-rise and townhouse projects. As a front end designer, I am also very often the point person for feasibility studies on potential development sites both for individual developers and brokers. NK was known for achieving maximum development capacity by starting the feasibility phase with a mathematical spreadsheet and then producing drawings that test the math. NK ownership closed the business in 2018 and I spent the next 2 years helping NK projects to completion. I am currently licensed as an architect in California, Oregon and Washington. I am also NCARB Certified with member affiliations with the Urban Land Institute, Construction Specifications Institute, and the American Institute of Architects. The majority of my experience has been in the design side of the profession either with feasibility site studies, the early phases of vertical construction design, and the crafting of the graphics necessary to convey design concepts. Many of the rough sketches needed during the early design phases of our projects are produced by me personally.Specialties: I have worked on a variety of architectural projects in all phases of development in a variety of jurisdictions. My current focus is Type V over Type I residential mid-rise structures in the Puget Sound region. I am also focusing on Passive House design on this same scale and recently became a Certified Passive House Designer.
