My vision was to provide another avenue to sell product in addition to the traditional format of face to face selling in our shops. My ambition to supply new brands and higher quality products needed more sales and I turned to the Internet and telephone mail order as a solution to this problem. Rutland Cycling Ltd very quickly became a major player in this market rising to a "Top 10 Hitwise" ranked website before I handed over the running and development to another team as its size and dominance in the marketplace grew.My responsibility for sales performance drove my desire to saturate as many markets as possible with our product and this led to me taking on various roles within the business such as Head of Advertising and Marketing whilst performing the role of Sales Director. These additional roles helped me shape the direction of Rutland Cycling to achieve the goals I had set out which were to acquire all of the major brands in the UK and become a dominant web presence within our market sector. I am pleased to say that I achieved these goals and Rutland Cycling Ltd currently is one of the largest cycle based retailers in the UK, has a very dominant web business and the number one sports seller on eBay.

During my time in this role I managed the shop sales of all bikes including buying, ranging, stock management, sales performance and promotional activities. Whilst working as the Sales Manager I started the mail order side of Rutland Cycling Ltd through advertising in national press and through the creation of the Rutland Cycling website www.rutlandcycling.com this was done outside of work hours to help increase sales and in doing so kicked off Rutland Cycling as a major "mail order" player in our industry.

Halfords was where I started my working life, like many people from the bike industry the lure of selling bikes was appealing. I worked at Halfords part time during the time I was at college and then full time for 2 years afterwards. The promise of career progression was never fulfilled so I made the decision to move on. During my short time at halfords as a full time member of staff I worked in all of the major departments and sold all of the products that Halfords offer. By the time I came to leave I was the "Cycle Sales Supervisor" and a key holder to multiple stores in the local area.
