Senior Support Engineer - Civil, Structural & Water Management
I am a senior member of the Engineering Support Services team along side structural, mechanical, electrical and rail engineers. We are ultimately responsible for the technical support for the Mersey Ports infrastructure to ensure that the Ports within our cluster are fully operational and well maintained. We work with the Principles of Asset Management established in BS ISO 55001. The Mersey Cluster includes the Ports of Liverpool, Heysham Port, 12 Quays / Birkenhead Docks and the Manchester Ship Canal. The civil assets I am responsible for include the port's road and rail networks, river walls, dock walls, docks, quayside and buildings, to name a few.A strategic approach is required to oversee the entire cluster and my project management and technical experience enables me to coordinate operational staff on the port as required and also involve specialist consultants to provide technical expertise where necessary. The role needs to be dynamic to adapt to varying business needs; coordinating routine maintenance operations, assessing change of use for new clients, reacting to major incidents and failures and overseeing new installations prior to adoption by the business.I have also taken a supplementary role for the business with regard to The Manchester Ship Canal. The Ship Canal has a complex interaction with a number of river catchments in the region and therefore there is continual liaison with the Environment Agency. Given my previous experience and involvement with the EA teams in the North West I have become actively involved in these discussions as a representative of Peel Ports as owner of the MSC.
