My practice focuses on trials, compliance and trade secret counseling, internal investigations, and complex litigation. I am the co-leader of Winston's Data Security Task Force. I am a true trial lawyer, having taken 11 cases to trial in federal court, succeeding in each. My litigation practice focuses on complex commercial disputes, technology and trade secret litigation, product liability, health care fraud, and consumer class actions. My experience is in both federal and state courts in the U.S., as well as various forums in Europe and Asia. I spent two years leading Winston's Asia litigation practice and as the manager of the firm's office in Hong Kong.Having served as both a prosecutor and in house as litigation counsel and Chief Compliance Officer for a global, publicly traded, manufacturing company, I am able to provide practical advice to companies and Boards seeking to build, improve, and defend compliance programs. I understand that compliance programs differ greatly, based on the resources, risks, industries, privacy regulations, and challenges unique to each company, and I specialize in working with companies, and their Boards, in less regulated industries (including manufacturing, automotive, and technology), in addition to clients in the healthcare and finance industries. Having built a compliance program from the ground up while in-house, and helped many clients do the same, I am able to help work through common organizational road blocks and constraints. I focus a significant portion of my practice on conducting sensitive internal investigations, and interfacing with government agencies on behalf of my clients. I work with companies across many industries to investigate highly sensitive issues related to trade secret theft, conflicts of interest, fraud, and violations of anti-bribery and other laws.

As a federal prosecutor, I succeeded at trial in prosecuting corporate executives, public officials, and law enforcement officers for fraud, bribery, extortion, and perjury, including as trial counsel in the prosecutions of a member of Chicago Mayor Richard Daley’s cabinet; a Cook County Commissioner; several City of Chicago inspectors; a former Chicago alderman; and the president of a large pharmaceutical company.Working hand in hand with federal and state law enforcement, I also investigated and prosecuted a wide range of federal criminal cases involving complex corporate fraud, hacking and cybercrime, theft of confidential information, tax fraud, health care fraud, racketeering, terrorism, sex trafficking, drug and gun trafficking, murder, and gang violence. I, for example, successfully prosecuted a rogue employee who had stolen confidential business information from his Chicago-based employer and attempted to sell that information to competitors. My work often garnered local and national headlines. For example, I led the prosecution team that brought highly publicized fraud charges against William Mastro, an influential sports memorabilia figure, in connection with Mr. Mastro’s efforts to rig online auctions and his alteration of the “most expensive baseball card in the world.” I was also part of the team that prosecuted a Chicago-area man for cyberstalking an ESPN sportscaster. I also led the prosecution team that won the first-ever life sentence for a Chicago-area sex trafficker for enslaving a number of young women, and was also instrumental in bringing a RICO case against a Chicago-area gang, the Hobos, who were ultimately found guilty of committing nine murders.
