In this wide-reaching finance and risk role, I focused the business on ambitious growth targets as a board member, executive director and ALCO chair. I controlled all external and internal reporting (including regulatory) and finance operations, headed product pricing / analytics and first line credit risk and lead treasury prudential risk management.Prominent projects have included managing our change in CEO and reshaping strategies towards a core purpose and community and member value in close collaboration with our incoming CEO. I also embedded more robust forecasting processes, improved the Society’s standing with the PRA, accelerated decision-making on key issues including pricing, and navigated routes through volatile economic and competitor landscapes.

Group Financial Controller / Interim CFOI took pivotal roles to guide the business through a period of growth against highly challenging market conditions. During my tenure, I acted as Interim CFO for eight months where I participated in all board meetings and ALCO, risk and audit committees.Key achievements included providing decisive leadership of all financial reporting, revising our forecast approach and influencing the strategic allocation of capital. I sponsored a successful IFRS9 implementation and played a key senior finance role in STB’s main market listing, business segments’ sale and capital raising. I also set up our assumptions, model governance and data governance committees, and achieved major cost savings via a VAT reduction initiative.

Head of Group Finance / Head of Financial ReportingI moved across several roles in the organisation, from internal auditor into management roles in the operations division and running and transforming the 300-person mortgage operations department. I then moved into operational risk, commercial lending and financial reporting leadership positions within finance before promotion to Head of Group Finance. I ultimately set up the control team in the new information management function.Across my tenure, I was closely involved in several M&A and change projects, including acting as sponsor in a large core banking system change project, utilising IFRS 3R accounting standards for the first time in the UK to enable acquisition of smaller building societies, and taking a commercial finance role in the divestment of a £270M property portfolio.
