Currently managing effort to create agile software development courseware for non-tech types such as contract management, legal department, etc.

I reviewed, revised, designed and developed the workflows for contract renewal and client on-boarding for a vision insurance company. This work was done in a pure agile environment (3 week sprints, with Jira and other Atlassian tools) with development work done using Case 360, Visio (with Case 360 plugin), Java, and Angular/Javascript.During my first contract at this company, I worked with stakeholders from end users to department management to define and develop the proof of concept for this system. I completed a working proof of concept two months ahead of the POCs that integrated with it.I returned to the vision insurance company on a second contract to implement the first phase of the client on-boarding system. I worked with additional stakeholders to refine the process. I worked with other developers to add a REST layer to the software to facilitate future database changes and synching with a planned data warehouse implementation. For a second group in the same organization, I designed and created a prototype correspondence management system. These projects - and my contract - were cancelled when upper management decided to standardize on another platform for all the workflow processes companywide.

After years of doing my own home improvement projects, I am now helping others with theirs. I bring my design skills to help clients update their kitchens, both aesthetically and functionally. I help clients tame their unruly storage problems in closets and garages and maximize the efficient use of those spaces.

I took time to pursue some interests not directly related to my professional life. During this time, my spouse’s career required a relocation to Long Beach, so I acted as project manager for our condo renovation - both the work we did ourselves and that which we contracted out. Additional pursuits during this time included travel, comedy, art, writing/publishing a travelog/memoir (available on Amazon), and writing/producing/performing an original theater piece at two Fringe festivals. In keeping with the ‘creative break’ nature of this time, I produced a series of web videos on YouTube documenting the renovation.

I was the team lead for contractors working on a system for tracking the certification and re-certification of Medicare providers. The development work was done primarily using Case 360, JavaScript, and HTML. I designed and created a work assignment module which saved first level management twenty hours per month over the previous manual system. I re-engineered a data capture process to remove manual steps that required first level management to create XML data files. I helped the client establish programming standards and naming conventions for all future projects. I initiated a project of impact analysis for the retrofit legacy modules to meet these standards/conventions.

OpenText (2011-07 to 2014-08)Global 360 (2009-07 to 2011-07) - OpenText bought Global 360I was in the professional services group for this business workflow/document management software vendor. Typically I would begin working with a client during sales cycle and follow through to completion of custom software development project. I was often assigned to multiple projects, switching between all roles in the full lifecycle of professional services engagements - e.g. I might be project manager on one project, developer on another, technical writer on a third, and assisting sales on yet another project in the same week. Sample Project: I was a developer for contractors working on a system to track retail and commercial orders for the financial arm of an automobile manufacturer. I did the requirements gathering for the data warehousing-based reporting for the vehicle order tracking system. I developed scripts for updating a Business Intelligence product with near real time data from the vehicle order tracking system using SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) and SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS). This was a primarily agile-based project.Sample Project: I co-managed a project to move a client’s non-structured (i.e. document) data from one document management system to another. This included reverse-engineering the data structures of the meta-data. This project had both agile and traditional project management phases.

I did independent consulting and training on small systems and web sites. The company name was a double-entendre because I also did fitness training under this title.

I reverse engineered the technical documentation for this client’s custom inventory management software. This included quickly coming up to speed on the software so I could document it. In the process, I also set documentation standards for technical and user documents going forwardCustomer praised the way I worked with the subject matter experts, the speed with which I grasped the essentials, and the quality of the documentation I created for each application

I was both a pre-sales technical consultant to sales team and post-sales professional services consultant for this business workflow and document management software vendor. As Sales Engineer, assisted in the entire sales cycle starting after initial lead acquisition. As Systems Consultant, usually started working with client during sales cycle and following through to completion of custom software development project.Sample systems consultant project: Designed and created system to provide online access to criminal records and manage the offsite scanning of legacy paper-based criminal records.

I created conceptual solutions for the company's core business websites and wrote website application software modules and managed the staff writing other modulesI trained the sales staff on both internally-created and commercial softwareI performed all system management tasks at one time or another, including configuring new servers, deploying web sites, installing network wiring, managing user accounts, maintaining production databases, system backups, etc
