Customer Service is an art and a science. As with sales it is one of those disciplines that needs the '10,000 hours of mastery' to be truly great at the job. I just 'got' Customer Service immediately, and, as with sales, you suddenly realise you have been practicing the skills as far back as you can remember. This paid off dividends at United Distillers and helped me share my theories, beliefs and practices through the UK operation and into Europe.Distribution and Logistics appealed to the scientist in me and following a 5 day residential course at Cranfield University I felt I had a grasp of the subject. Of course a fantastic team trained by the previous manager made my life much easier. Catherine W was a real asset to the team and United Distillers in this area.Before I left, or at least the office left me (the operation moved from Perth, Scotland to Uxbridge!) I was involved with innovative supply chain work with United Distillers Operations, Sales and Marketing as well as with Tesco and Sainsbury's. I know you make your own luck, however, during this time at United Distillers I was privileged to work with some outstanding business people.
