Before becoming a research-driven communications pro working at the nexus of advocacy communications and public affairs, I cut my teeth working as an award-winning investigative reporter for over a decade. I have also worked as an opposition researcher, due diligence pro, content writer, and editor, with a heavy emphasis on climate/energy policy while always maintaining a much wider view. As a journalist, my bylined experience spanned from non-profit and for-profit newsrooms, local and national print and broadcast journalism across beat focuses. I learned from my days in semi-elite distance running, including as a student-athlete, to endure doggedly doing what it takes to get the job done and done well.A seasoned synthesizer of the legal, regulatory, financial, scientific and geopolitical, as well as thought leader and organizational leader/advisor, my specialties include SEO-oriented content, enterprise journalism media relations/comms, and strategic research for public affairs. I have been invited as a speaker over the years to share my insights over the years with stakeholders including Ottawa Power Authority, undergraduate and law school students, high school kids, community groups, and to other senior government officials. My timely research and public affairs output has helped to get favorable policies for clients passed and bad policies killed, and I have landed first-tier media coverage in outlets such as The New York Times, The Washington Post, NPR, The Guardian, ProPublica, LA Times, SF Chronicle, The New Yorker, Politico, and premier indy media outlets such as Capital & Main, The Intercept, Drilled News, and DeSmog.com. My research has also helped shape the award-winning and bestselling book "By the Fire We Carry: The Generations-Long Fight for Justice on Native Land" by Rebecca Nagle for HarperCollins.As a competitive marathoner, too, I’ve done nine. My personal best time is 2:43 at The Boston Marathon (228th place out of 22,849 runners), also running 2:44 at the Chicago Marathon (236th place out of 36,159 runners) and seven sub-3 marathons. Beyond enjoying long distance runs and hiking, in my free time I study my Polish/Lithuanian Jewish ancestry, giving myself a crash course on the Commonwealth dating back to the 900s. I will also teach a course this coming spring at University of Florida for its Public Interest Public Relations program on research-driven communications, serve on the Board of Directors of the California Streets Initiative, which governs StreetsBlog California, and serve on my firm's DEI Committee.
