Africa Tobacco Control Regional Initiative (Atcri)
Coordinating the Media Communication and Internet campaign for tobacco control programming in Sub-Saharan Africa with coordination of the online resource center of the ATCC (Africa Tobacco Control Consortium) project. I was directly in charge of developing and maintaining the ATCRI multilingual website (http://www.atcri.org www.atcri.org), and the project portals, including the Africa Tobacco Situational Analysis (ATSA, atsa.atcri.org), a project of International Development Research Center (IDRC). I was also in charge of coordinating the Africa journalist’s network, which is a country-level organisation of journalist for tobacco control messaging and media advocacy for policy-change in Africa.As part of my technical responsibilities, I maintain list-servs and perform Knowledge Management of TC Resources on the SSA. I produced monthly newsletters on tobacco control activities on the continent, and was in charge of web content management for ATCRI, while also taking lead roles in training and capacity building for tobacco control. I took the role of IT coordinator for the Africa Tobacco Control Consortium (ATCC) project, and provided support for Media and Policy Advocacy campaign that resulted in the passage of the Nigeria National Tobacco Control Bill.The ATCC project is funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation for Africa, through the American Cancer Society and partnership with Framework Convention Alliance (Geneva, Switzerland), International Union Against Cancer and Tuberculosis, Campaign for Tobacco-free Kids (USA) and Africa Tobacco Control Alliance (Lome, Togo). ATCRI is funded by Cancer Research UK and American Cancer Society (ACS).
