Blue Rhino Design is an exciting new exhibit design firm based in Toronto, Canada. The company offers a full suite of exhibit design solutions for museums, galleries, science centres and other cultural and educational groups and institutions. Co-Founders Graphic Designer Niina Gates-Kass, Exhibition Designer Aylin Doyle, and Exhibit Developer Steve Karpik together have over 50 years of experience in the project management, design, creation and installation of engaging, interactive and educational physical and digital exhibits.

Prior to the formation of SteveKarpik.com Inc., my activities as a consultant centred primarily on the solution of complex engineering problems involving heat and mass transfer through the application advanced computational methods. Applications ranged from the modeling of paint application on automobiles in spray booths and tanks to assessing meteorological models that could be used to predict radiation spread from damaged nuclear reactors. This work required sophisticated software development techniques and a deep understanding of computing technologies. This knowledge is equally applicable to engineering problems as it is to the development of interactive digital experiences and after ten years focussing on engineering problems, I made a transition into digital media and human-computer interaction.My work today largely specializes on the convergence of design, multimedia and technology with application to education, communication, and entertainment. The focus is now on providing information technology consulting and software development services to the cultural, educational and non-profit sectors. We offer expertise in the development of natural user interfaces, interactive exhibits, social networking websites and mobile applications. Our particular specialization is the development of multiuser and networked experiences that link physical interactive exhibits with engaging online experiences. A visit to an art gallery, museum or science centre need not end when the visitor leaves the exhibit hall. We offer ways to extend the experience through interactive websites and mobile applications. We build with technologies (multitouch, gestural, etc.) that make experiences seamless and intuitive to the user.
