In my role as Digital Workflow Engineer for NBC Sports during the 2024 Olympics and Paralympics, I was responsible for training, docuenting workflows, and providing technical support across multiple remote venues and Stamford headquarters.Key Responsibilities:• Trained hundreds of freelance operators on media systems, offering workflow advice and 24/7 escalation support to ensure seamless coverage of live events during the Olympics.• Developed a public wiki and documented key operational processes, providing quick reference guides for operators and technicians during the event.• Automated data gathering and reporting systems for file transfers, enabling real-time tracking of bottlenecks and improving operational efficiency.• Published daily executive reports on system utilization, pinpointing key areas for improvement and streamlining operations during live broadcasts.I’m proud to provide technical support throughout the Paris 2024 Olympics, and to contribute to NBC's ability to deliver world-class sports coverage on a global scale. As Director of Data and Workflows at CBS Sports, I led the technical strategy and operational support for broadcast and media workflows across high-profile events. Overseeing a director, two managers, and their teams, I ensured seamless execution for remote venues and six studios across New York and California.Key Responsibilities:• Led teams in designing and implementing broadcast and post-production workflows, including Telestream Vantage, Avid Media Central UX, and EVS systems.• Directed modernization projects for UHD, HDR, NDI, and SMPTE ST 2110 standards.• Oversaw the design, integration, and maintenance of virtualized server farms, control rooms, studios, and live remote productions.• Ensured 24/7 technical support and uptime for live broadcasts and post-production workflows, coordinating teams across facilities.• Collaborated with senior leadership, vendors, and internal stakeholders to deliver scalable media solutions.Major Achievements:• Led RFPs and hands on installation of storage and networking across multiple facilities, including Cisco, OpenDrives, Quantum, NetApp, and Avid Nexis.• Designed and deployed disaster recovery and remote production workflows, supporting cloud-based editing, virtualized environments, and remote edit for Covid-19 and beyond.• Led engineering teams responsible for operations in edit suites, MCR/PCR, and venues, ensuring smooth execution under tight deadlines.• Implemented advanced network and system monitoring tools, enabling efficient troubleshooting and real-time issue resolution across multiple broadcast locations.My role at CBS Sports involved not only managing cutting-edge broadcast technology but also fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture among a diverse set of engineering teams. As the leader of this newly branded team, Steve will manage the day-to-day support of the Post Production facilities including all content prep/archive systems in the MOC and NOC. He and his team will also support the DMD/DMO teams, and the transcoding systems which feed digital delivery of content to many media outlets. Since joining NBCUniversal in 2011 as Principal Systems Engineer, Steve has managed several Avid upgrades, and has worked on scoping future expansion and the XDCAM transition. He has also laid a foundation for several emergency response and resiliency initiatives, while helping to design the Central Prep environment with new hardware and software solutions. In his new role, Steve will continue to identify areas where we can improve uptime, efficiency, and the operational experience. Prior to joining us at the NOC, Steve worked for Avid for 11+ years and he carries that experience and wealth of knowledge with him every day.
