  • University Of New Mexico, Center For Advanced Research Computing (Carc)
    Visiting Applications Scientist
University Of New Mexico, Center For Advanced Research Computing (Carc) Jan 2014 - Jun 2015
With in-person assistance, I have helped over a dozen faculty and students become new users of our high performance computing center. These users come from a wide range of disciplines, including business, bioinformatics, engineering, and political science. This is the most fun part of my current job, which also includes data management consulting. My favorite success is having helped a professor move from SAS on his desktop to multi-threaded python (NetworKit) on 8-core nodes, reducing his longest computation time from one month to 4 days.
  • University Of New Mexico
    Research Data Scientist
University Of New Mexico Jun 2013 - Jun 2015
    Albuquerque, Nm
Helping campus researchers will all aspects of research data, especially data analysis, parallel computing, and data publishing. The most exciting aspect of my work is helping new users of high performance computing (HPC) or parallel computing successfully move from desktop analysis to using machines in our Center for Advanced Research Computing.
  • Aumanil

    Aumanil Apr 2013 - Jun 2013
    Albuquerque, New Mexico Area
As an independent contractor, I created predictive models for customer retention products offered by Aumanil. Models built using python, developed using historical data, tested on current customer data.
  • University Of New Mexico, Physics And Astronomy And Center For High Technology Materials
    Assistant Professor
University Of New Mexico, Physics And Astronomy And Center For High Technology Materials Aug 2006 - May 2013
    Albuquerque, New Mexico
Tenure-track Assistant Professor, Department of Physics and Astronomy and Center for High Technology Materials (CHTM). One large grant (DTRA, \$1.5M, co-PI with Atlas), developed optical tweezers and automated kinesin gliding motility assays. Four Ph.D. students graduated. Mentored 8 undergrad. researchers. Taught more than 700 students, mostly undergrad. courses, with excellent reviews. Open-science advocate.
  • Sandia National Laboratories
    Cint Distinguished Postdoctoral Fellow
Sandia National Laboratories Jun 2004 - Aug 2006
Led an interdisciplinary team of scientists from Los Alamos and Sandia National Labs to design and construct state of the art single-molecule manipulation capabilities for the Center for Integrated Nanotechnologies (CINT). Developed MEMS technology for applications in biophysics and nanotechnology.
  • Sandia National Laboratories
    Postdoctoral Appointee
Sandia National Laboratories Jun 2003 - Jun 2004
Developed and characterized strategies for stabilizing kinesin and microtubules (a biomolecular motor system) for use in synthetic systems (DARPA funded).
  • Cornell University, Department Of Physics
    Graduate Research Assistant
Cornell University, Department Of Physics Jan 1998 - May 2003
Along with Richard Yeh, designed and constructed a state of the art optical tweezers system for single-molecule biophysics experiments. System included laser optics, microscopy, electronics, digital feedback data acquisition and data analysis software. The optical tweezers system was used to take the data for most of the first papers to come out of the lab, including two in PNAS, two in Molecular Cell, one PRL, three in Biophysical Journal, and one in Nature Structural and Molecular Biology. I also used these tweezers for the invention of a new single molecule technique for investigating protein-DNA interactions by unzipping single DNA molecules.
