About Steve Lafleur
I am a public policy analyst focused on improving the quality of life in North American cities. As a suburbanite turned urbanist I am interested in how to balance the needs of suburban areas with historic cores; vibrancy and affordability; mobility and growth. I love North American cities, and I believe their best days are ahead.I don't believe in easy solutions, for the most part, but I generally trust dispersed decision making over centralization. Incentives matter a lot, and getting them right is essential to healthy metropolitan areas. Despite the challenges facing urban areas, I am convinced that cities are safer and more interesting places to live than ever before. While I'd like to see bold political leadership to push for better public policy in metropolitan areas, I don't believe in sitting back and waiting for white knights. Change comes from outside the political system, and it starts with ideas. Promoting good ideas is my business and my passion.I am a frequent commentator in print, radio, television, and online news sources.
