Ceo/Technical DirectorHangar19 Limited Jan 2014 - PresentChelmsford, Essex, GbHangar19 develop solutions for smart cities focusing on sustainable transport, environmental monitoring and energy management. We have been working with partners for the last 8 years to deliver projects that integrate transport, encourage the adoption of electric vehicles and provide ways to solve environmental monitoring with new technologies such as cloud based software & IOT communication networking. Leveraging our electric vehicle work we are now working in renewable energy management, grid load management and vehicle to grid (V2G) applications in the UK, Europe and the Middle East. Our core product is Hubeleon, a Device Management System designed specifically for energy, eMobility and integrated transport and traffic applications. The growth of intelligent transport infrastructure and networked systems with thousands of communicating devices has driven the need for management systems/platforms with which to administer, monitor and control these diverse intelligent assets.Hubeleon is a software platform which serves all these capabilities and is then configurable for each particular purpose/instance. -
Software Development Manager/Product OwnerVisteon Engineering Services Ltd Jan 2014 - Oct 2014Van Buren Township, Mi, UsI looked after a fantastic team of engineers, 33 software engineers distributed between the UK, France, India & Bulgaria; all working towards one goal - delivery of one of the most technically complicated and advanced instrument clusters for one of the world most discerning premium vehicle manufacturers. In a sector (and company) where V cycle/Waterfall software development methods are prevalent we were running a hybrid V Cycle/Agile development method to showcase functionality to the customer quicker and evolve the product iteratively. This project was all about delivery of an immensely demanding technical software product in a timeframe that would by traditional methods be considered unreasonable and unachievable. -
Technology DirectorPod Point Ltd Nov 2009 - Dec 2013London, England, GbPOD Point was a fantastic experience. From 2 of us in 2009 to 18 full time staff and over 30 more people contracted in developing, making, installing and maintain our products by 2013.We supplied the charge points to enable an EV revolution; without our contribution 30% of the chargepoints publicly installed wouldn't be there; domestic chargepoints wouldn't be so competitively priced (in 2010 we though a home chargepoint could sell for £900, by 2012 we'd taken sale price to sub £380 whilst also improving our product quality and design). We achieved this with a balance of entrepreneurial zeal, automotive and aeronautical engineering experience, grit, determination and a desire to contribute something better.I lead the development of two chargepoint electronic/electrical platforms (one for public and one for domestic); a web/server based management system that controlled all public and communicating domestic POD Points, over 1500 chargepoints via Open Charge Point Protocol (OCPP) distributed across the UK, Ireland, Norway and as far afield as Australia. With a great team of clever guys we developed a grid load management systems trialled successfully across London and resulting in an innovative patent for using chargepoints as a controllable load for demand management. We delivered the UK's National Chargepoint Registry on behalf of the DfT/OLEV; a nationwide solution for detailing chargepoint locations and accessibility. This is a resource used today by the likes of Nissan, Renault, Vauxhall/Opel as well as the major players in the portable navigation and mapping industry, TomTom & Nokia Here (formerly Navteq). Our system provides information directly into the Nav systems in almost all the EV's on the road today. In a small company you have a role, but your job is to keep that company alive. Demanding but immensely rewarding, I learnt more about business in that 4 years than my MBA could ever have taught me. There's learning it, then there's doing it. -
