In 1988, Mr. Leibel began representing individuals in serious personal injury, brain injury and wrongful death. He has achieved numerous million dollar verdicts and settlements throughout the state including victories for severely injured children.His winning verdict for the wrongful death murder of Derwin Brown the Sheriff-elect of Dekalb County still stands as the highest jury verdict for a single death with punitive damages in Georgia history — $776 million.He is a member of the Georgia Trial Lawyers Association, the American Bar Association, and the Atlanta Lawyers Club. In addition, Mr. Leibel is a graduate of both Leadership Sandy Springs and Leadership Lumpkin County. Mr. Leibel has served as a federal trial lawyer, peace officer and as a Municipal Court Judge. He was Governor Perdue’s appointed Member on The Brain & Spinal Injury Trust Fund Commission for the State of Georgia. He served as a Board member of the Marcus Autism Institute. He was a founder, and then Vice Chairman of Foothills Community Bank of Georgia. He also served as a board member of Legacy Link, which serves the aging population. As part of his commitment to bettering education he co founded the first State chartered science and mathematics high school in Fulton County. He now serves on the Board of the Georgia Self Storage Association (GASSA).Mr. Leibel graduated from the highly recognized Bronx High School of Science with Merit. He received his undergraduate degree summa cum laude from Queens College of the City University of New York . He then completed Emory Law School. He is also a graduate from the North Central Police Academy. Mr. Leibel is POST certified and maintains his certification as a peace officer.
