About Steve Lesko

I'm an audiophile with a passion for everything to do with sound design, entertainment and Celtic fiddling/culture. My love for all things audio began back in 2007, when I made my first multitrack recording in Audacity with my fiddle and guitar. Since then, I've received a bachelor's degree in Sound Design for Film and Video Production, worked as a microphone boom operator in the independent film industry, rescued and repaired troublesome dialogue, recorded and produced multiple music albums and brought audio to life in numerous videos. I learned audio editing on Avid Pro Tools and have continued to use it on Mac operating systems since receiving my degree in 2015.My second love, Celtic fiddling, began in 2003 as a 5th grader in orchestra class, under the direction of Jed Fritzemeier. Playing my fiddle has taken me all across Michigan and as far as the British Isles and China. My most proud achievements on this musical journey include becoming the director of the very same high school group that got me interested in fiddling, and founding and performing in CrossBow, Michigan's premier high-energy traditional Celtic band.

  • Crossbow, Llc
    Violinist/Fiddler, Manager, Frontman
Crossbow, Llc Aug 2011 - Present
    Chelsea, Mi
From a casual jam session in Grand Rapids, MI, to becoming a popular favorite at Celtic festivals across the Midwest, CrossBow has been humbled and excited by every turn on their musical journey. To date, CrossBow has performed in every major Celtic, Scottish and Irish festival in the state, and has been featured in festivals and venues in Wisconsin, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia and New York.Co-founding fiddlers, Steve Lesko and Carly Meloche, met in their high school Celtic band, the Chelsea House Orchestra. This extracurricular group also produced fiddlers, Diana Ladio (The Moxie Strings and The Elders), Kiana Weber (Gaelic Storm) and Wes Fritzemeier (The Kreellers and Thunderwüde). In 2011, Steve and Carly, along with vocalist/guitarist, Clare McMillan, founded CrossBow in a small music practice room. With just two violins and a guitar, the three young musicians never expected to showcase their traditional Irish music much beyond campus hallways and local pubs. Yet they were immediately met with overwhelming enthusiasm and the trio quickly realized they were onto something special.Next to join the group were percussionist, Ethan Noga, and woodwind player, Adam McMillan. As CrossBow grew in numbers, so did its repertoire. In 2016, Mike Spencer joined Ethan on a variety of drums and rounded out the band's percussion section. By incorporating pop, rock and folk sounds into their set list, CrossBow delivers a distinct, eclectic vibe that still remains true to their Celtic roots, appealing to audiences of all ages. Much of the thrill in experiencing a CrossBow performance actually transcends the music itself. This excitement stems from the contagious joy and camaraderie shared between the players, and communicated directly with their audience. Apparent from the moment they hit the stage – these high-energy musicians naturally feed off of one another, creating a toe-tapping, shenanigan-filled, dynamic, wholly unique performance that shouldn’t be missed.
  • The American Rogues
    Violinist/Fiddler
The American Rogues Jul 2013 - Present
If the 78th Fraser Pipe Band sat down with the Chieftains, Wolfstone, and the Waterboys and then asked some friends from a symphonic orchestra and a Japanese taiko group to join them at the table the resulting sound might resemble the AMERICAN ROGUES. For years the performances of this American/Canadian group have electrified audiences on three continents. They have added to their ever-growing family of fans -- affectionately known as the Rogue Army -- at music festivals, theaters, Highland Games, military bases, renaissance festivals, clubs, pubs, and corporate events -- anywhere that presents top-quality, high-energy music. This has even included airplay on TV and radio and shows at non-Celtic venues such as the World Music Festival in Quebec, Canada where they kicked off the 6 day event to widespread acclaim in 2015. Their hard won road successes have established them as artists with bona fide international acclaim. Renowned for their musical skill, quick wit, compelling storytelling, and engaging stage show the AMERICAN ROGUES have mastered the art of creating an immediate connection with audiences who can't stay in their seats! Equally known for their unique, multi-instrumental sound that crosses the musical landscape to include jigs/reels, originals, covers, traditional music, soundtracks, patriotic and military music, Irish foot-stompers and more the AMERICAN ROGUES are fast becoming a household name with music lovers around the world, loved by young and old of all backgrounds.
  • Westbound Productions, Llc
    Sound Designer And Dialogue Editor
Westbound Productions, Llc Dec 2015 - Oct 2024
    Grand Rapids, Michigan, United States
I started contracting in as a Sound Designer and Dialogue Editor for Westbound in December of 2015. My main responsibility was to enhance client videos through audio mixing, restoration and/or sound design. I was often given a session that needs volume leveling between the talent and the music, as well as the occasional restoration. With the help of Waves plugins and iZotope RX 8 Advanced, I was able to salvage audio that was distorted and/or clipped, blown out by wind or even interrupted by exterior background noise. These projects ranged from interviews to product marketing campaigns to podcasts. In January of 2020, I increased my responsibility with Westbound by taking on the role of Salesman. I met with the head producer once a week to discuss our strategies and potential clients list. Unfortunately, we had to scale back activity with the COVID-19 Pandemic and I ceased acting as a Salesman in April, 2020, but maintained my role as Sound Designer and Dialogue Editor.
  • The Moxie Strings
    Administrative Assistant And Video Producer
The Moxie Strings Apr 2016 - Dec 2023
    Chelsea, Mi
I handled final booking details and communications between the band and their employers. Some of my tasks included drafting contracts and invoices, providing the employers with the necessary promotional tools, as well as updating the band’s social media pages and calendars. I also filmed, edited and produced videos for the band, including online course videos and recap videos of their tours in Ireland.Hailed by The Grand Rapids Press as “top-notch, instrumental wizardry,” The Moxie Strings offer listeners the unique opportunity to experience two of the world’s best-known instruments through a young, progressive lens. Diana Ladio and Alison Lynn both hold Bachelor of Music degrees in music performance, which have given each the technical foundation to explore the limits of her instrument and helped the group build a reputation for musical excellence. The Moxie Strings compose the majority of their pieces and arrange melodies from many traditions, resulting in a genre-blurring blend of ear-catching melodies and foot-stomping, rock-influenced rhythms. Alison performs on a newly-invented, electric cello, and Diana on a contemporary 5-string violin, both through a variety of audio effects pedals. Fritz performs on a mix of world percussionist instruments and drum kit. Their polished, high-energy show and unique sound have quickly made the band one of the country’s most promising instrumental acts.Having made the exploratory journey from classical music to a world of eclecticism and music creativity, the three have now dedicated their careers to helping young musicians make this life-changing and transformative transition through clinics in school music programs. TMS clinics focus on musical self-discovery and the importance of incorporating socially and culturally relevant genres of music in the music classroom. The band tours extensively both playing shows and teaching clinics. Current Magazine insists that “the future of music could not be in better hands.”
  • Edustaff, Llc
    Substitute Teacher
    Edustaff, Llc Oct 2017 - Dec 2020
    Chelsea, Michigan
I was primarily an orchestra substitute teacher for the orchestras of Chelsea schools in Wastenaw County, Michigan. I could, however, and often did, sub for other teachers in the Chelsea School District. My experience is with 3rd-12th grades and I've been given assignments as short as 2hrs and as longs as 2 weeks. Through hard work and accountability, I quickly became a highly ranked and go-to substitute for the district.
  • The Chelsea House Orchestra
Assistant Director And Co-Director, Sound Mixer And Booker
The Chelsea House Orchestra May 2017 - Dec 2019
    Chelsea, Michigan
As Assistant Director, I wore multiple hats. First and foremost, I assisted the director, Jed Fritzemeier, with just about anything. I could represent him at rehearsals and board meetings and field questions from the students or employers of the band. Being a district employee, I was qualified to run rehearsals and direct the students when Jed wasn't available. I often took care of things behind the scenes when Jed was preoccupied with performing. In 2019, I was promoted to Co-Director. I also co-ran the sound board with our technician during shows and interacted with fans and employers alike when an opportunity arose. I relied on my experiences from my time in the group as a high schooler and my time as a professional fiddler over the years to help mentor the students in this genre and industry. On average, I worked with about 25 students on a weekly basis, with shows on the weekends throughout the Midwest.Musically, CHO (Chelsea House Orchestra) provides a varied and colorful performance repertoire with the majority of the music derived from traditional Celtic sources. However, other folk music sources are used to provide students with an eclectic musical experience. The basic philosophy of the arrangements is to allow everyone in the group to enjoy Celtic music as much as possible. Consequently, the majority of the playing is melody based with very little inner harmony or separate part writing. This truly provides students a contrasting experience from their normal school orchestra. All music is memorized and arrangements often evolve from rehearsals and suggestions from students. Individuals are showcased through the use of solos, duos, and special features.Students are also encouraged to learn other instruments such as mandolin, guitar, bodhran, djembe, cajon, various folk percussion, bass, bouzouki and anything else they can think of that has a folk connection.

As a Producer, I served as the main communication between the Customer and the Voice Over Talent. I reviewed the Customers' scripts, checked for grammatical and spelling errors, tested the timing and processed the order in an easy to read format for the Talent, including delivery directions and the phonetics for words which may have tripped them up. As a Quality Control Engineer, I listened to and reviewed the voiceovers submitted by our talents. I confirmed that they read the full script and pronounced all words correctly. If I found a mistake, or a section of bad audio, I would send the file back to the talent to rerecord. If the commercial required more than just a dry VO, I mixed in music and/or SFX. I also mixed multi-voice commercials."At Speedy Spots, we pride ourselves on the best voice over service anywhere, for the best rates anywhere. We specialize in high quality, affordable voiceovers with fast turn-around for our customers. We know the demands you’re under to produce high quality media content and Speedy Spots is here to help!
