Mr. Matz is currently the Vice President of Engineering and Planning at Philly Shipyard Inc. He directs the engineering and planning departments in support of all new construction and repair projects. In this role, he is responsible for the manpower, budgeting, and schedule as well as oversight of all subcontracted design partners. Mr. Matz also supports all technical efforts related to Business Development and shipyard operations.Mr. Matz received a Bachelor of Science in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering from Webb Institute. He has also received a Master of Science in Project Management from Stevens Institute of Technology. Mr. Matz is also trained as a Black Belt in Lean Six Sigma and Earned Value Management. Mr. Matz was hired as one of the original project engineers at Aker Philadelphia Shipyard to design container ships for the Jones Act trade. At Aker, he moved into project planning and then project management. Most recently, Mr. Matz was working at Lockheed Martin in the project management organization for the Ship Integration & Test Department for the USN Aegis destroyers being built at BIW and NGSB. Mr. Matz has experience in preparing statements of work and manpower estimates. He has performed shipchecks for validating compliance with contract drawings and recommending changes to as built configurations. He has been responsible for coordinating SPY weapon system alignment and adaptation data updates. He is also knowledgeable in process improvement tools and techniques. Mr. Matz supported the LPD 17 Ship Design Manager, NAVSEA05D3. He was the Alion team lead for performing engineering review of LPD 17 design changes for new construction hulls. Mr. Matz has received an award from the Office of the Secretary of Defense for outstanding achievement through value engineering for support of reducing operating costs to the Navy. He also received a special recognition award at Lockheed for his performance on the Web-based Common Adaptation Tool Development Program.
