In my position as a Work Health and Safety Assistant I am able to use my skills and abilities gained over my career to improve safety and reduce harm. I am proficient in writing of complex documents such as Safe Operating Procedures, Policies, General Procedures and Reports. I have had extensive experience in risk assessments and audits. I regularly perform training in the way of site orientations, inductions, Bullying and Discrimination training, and competency assessments.

As a Production Operator at Borgs Manufacturing I gained intimate knowledge of the Safety Culture imbedded within the workforce at our Mount Gambier sites. I also gained knowledge of the inherent dangers and hazards working in a manufaction site. I became a Health and Safety Representative for the second time in my career. This oppurtunity helped me to not only build relationships within the workforce but also at management level and I believe in my current role as a WHS Professional it enables me to understand different perspectives in a more indepth way.

In my time back with McMahon Services I bolstered my education in work health and safety by becoming a health and safety representative whilst contracting onto a BHP site in Port Hedland, WA. Some of the tactics and methods BHP use on there sites I still drive in my position today. Alongside the experience gained from being on such a safety stringent site, I was also able to experience working with heavy machinery, explosive demolition and working in extreme weather conditions. During this project I gained experience in safety systems, risk assessments and teamwork.

Working as a Demolition Laborer for McMahon services exposed me to heavy plant and machinery and much larger scale demolition jobs with higher risk. I also experienced a deeper understanding and a higher quality of risk assessments in general but also with regards to Asbestos and Asbestos removal. I regularly worked at height whether that be in an EWP, on rooves or on high rise scaffolding. I worked in groups and used power tools and machinery such as excavators, bobcats and EWP's.

In my time at De-Construct I gained experience with hand and power tools and the removal of asbestos. it was the first time i was exposed to commercial sites and a higher level of safety than previously obtained on domestic sites.
