• Laing O’Rourke is the largest privately owned construction firm in the UK. The core Data Centre is located in Dartford, Kent and services approximately 1000 local users, with a further 5000 highly mobile users spread.
• Implementation of a project management methodology within the Infrastructure team. This ensures that all projects are measurable, and delivered to agreed requirements.
• Transition infrastructure support to an off-shore supplier allowing the infrastructure team to focus on project delivery.
• Strategic migration to a NetApp storage solution from an aged HP EVA platform. Including vendor selection, design and implementation management.
• Implementation of a Virtual Test Lab that delivers a robust testing infrastructure to the UK, India and Dubai IT Teams. This lab uses the latest VMWare Lab Manager product set and supports over 80 separate test.
• Implementation of VMware virtualisation technology across the data centre.

• The role consists of two main components; the first is to act as an internal IT consultant, being the technical lead for complex projects within EMEA. This has required me to undertake the following:
• Build technical designs
• Investigate alternative solutions
• Liaise with all FD technology departments
• Liaise with 3rd Party providers
• Create required documentation

• The role faces off to the Board of Directors of which I was an active member and reports to the Vice President of IT – EMEA.The role of IT Infrastructure & Network Service Manager was to:
• Defining the overall IT strategy, publish longer term IT plans in order to support business requirements;
• Plan, manage and oversee all IT projects, activities and operations
• Recommend, research and evaluate new technologies to support these requirements
• Ensure established departmental procedures are adhered to, specifically in regard to security and disaster recovery
• Plan, manage & oversee regular tests of the DR/BC plan.

• Responsible for the proactive maintenance of the production environment which consisted of 2500 workstations and over 350 servers split across 3 UK and one German site (NT4, Novell, Win2k, Citrix XPA)
• Supported numerous applications from simple Exchange 2000 through to multi-million pound client facing applications with guaranteed 24/7 SLAs.
• Responsible for setting and maintaining the standards of equipment and services being driven by various project streams through to live production environment.
• Responsible for ensuring the existing environment is up to date with service packs and security releases from Microsoft or Novell.
• Central point of escalation for all production and infrastructure related matters, reporting upwards with technical solutions to business issues where necessary.
• Responsible for setting and managing the delivery of team objectives. These objectives were fully aligned to the business and IT strategy for First Data UK.
