About Steven Appleton
My coaching background started at grassroots level, I was responsible for introducing a new team of players to the game of football and developing their skills, techniques and personality through to becoming a competitive team within a local league set up.I spent a number of years at academy level, where I was responsible for the development of established young players, recording their progress and following guidelines for the Elite Players Performance Plan, this outlines a set of technical, physical, social and psychological practices to enable a player to achieve their potential. I worked at various academy set ups and had an input in to the progression of players who graduated to the professional game.I have coached at elite level within the ladies game and recently held the position of first team coach and U16 RTC coach at Stoke City FC. The female game is rapidly expanding and players are at an incredible standard of both technical ability and tactical awareness. Coaching at this level is highly recognised by the FA and requires a high level of qualification.I have coached and managed the England and Wales National teams at male and female level for the Prison Service, players representing these teams are from a semi professional or ex professional background and a good level, as well as vast experience of football is required to succeed at this level,I have worked for the English FA as a coach educator, delivering courses to new coaches who are looking to get involved in the coaching side of football; I also mentor coaches from grassroots clubs, to help them develop their skills and knowledge.I have spent time coaching abroad in South Korea and most recently working in Qatar, coaching at an academy and within international schools, where I was instrumental in the implementation of female only programs within the education system.
