Complex deals were my passion, and included M&A, reps and warranties and due diligence. Litigation often arose from transactional work and, along with being the interim General Counsel, I collaborated on all complex claims, legal research and opinion letters. Found time to publish white papers, join committees (including the New York City Bar Association Insurance Law Committee), and was a frequent panelist at CLE/CE events. Produced a book of PE business that followed me to Upward Risk Management, and remain clients to this day. I ultimately relocated to Los Angeles to open a new regional office.

Designed and brokered custom insurance products for Fortune 500 companies broadly indemnifying directors and officers against securities class actions, antitrust claims and regulatory matters. Appointed senior broker on a portfolio of large financial institution clients. Duties included coverage analysis, international insurance placements, claims oversight and presenting to the board of directors and C-suite. Negotiated complex claim workouts for financial institutions. Produced a book of business in my spare time by being present in the New York legal scene.

Focused on complex D&O and EPL litigation, including claim analysis, reporting and management for publicly traded companies. Transitioned to a hybrid claims attorney/broker role during the financial crisis in 2009. Created risk models that predicted the likelihood and severity of regulatory claims against specific banks based on Texas Ratios, AUM, local banking regulations, and S&L crisis data. Presented optimal insurance limits, structure and language to the C-Suite and board of directors. Grew our book of business from zero to 24 new banking clients in eighteen months as a deal closer.
