I work in the bioanalytical chemistry department within the GLP group facilitating and performing LC/MS/MS assays for sample analysis and method validation studies. During my time with the group, I have had the opportunity to perform dozens of studies ranging from sample analysis, method validations, to investigation driven inquiries with varying biological matrices from rat plasma to cerebrospinal fluid in combination with a wide variety of sponsor specific analytes of interest. To achieve this, I continue to develop my bench-top skills as well as broad data analysis techniques while adhering to strict BSL 2, GLP, SOPs, method, and protocol guidelines. In this pursuit, I work alongside and with varying management groups from project scientists, direct report supervisors, and directors to meet key timelines and balance multiple study related projects at once. Key pieces of equipment and software used include: a variety of LC/MS/MS systems, EXYLIMS LIMS systems, Watson, Analyst, VDI systems, and more. Working in the bioanalytical chemistry GLP group has greatly improved my capabilities as a chemist from industry LC/MS/MS experience, a wide variety of different study driven investigations, and especially the biological matrix component of analysis. This has led to a much greater understanding and appreciation of the CRO, biotech, and pharmaceutical industry as a whole to help meet client needs.

Worked under the director of analytical chemistry, Dr. David Keller, and developed an analytical method to measure the gradient delay volume in various liquid chromatography systems ranging from HPLC to UPLC systems. I was fully trained in good laboratory practice (GLP) guidelines and essential lab techniques. In addition, I gained immense hands-on experience in instrumental and analytical methods, as well as techniques such as HPLC and UPLC; especially in regards to practical theory implementation, machinery operation, and problem solving. Using this internship opportunity to the fullest to learn as much as possible prepared me for further biotech and pharmaceutical contract research work, especially as it pertains to assays, method development, and data analysis.
