Responsible for operations and maintenance activities for 5,828 MW of operating generating assets, located throughout the State of Iowa. The assets consisted of 4,029 MW of coal fired, 1,339 MW of natural gas fired (simple and combined cycle), 460 MW of wind energy. Modified planned outage schedule, resulting in an increase of plant availability. Revitalized use of predictive maintenance techniques, resulting in improved plant reliability. Led the development of a new 790 MW supercritical coal fired power plant at Council Bluffs Energy Center (CBEC). Managed all aspects of the facility’s development, construction and commissioning. The facility went commercial on schedule and under budget. Led the development of 460 MW of wind generation located at three sites throughout the State of Iowa. Developed a plan to add an additional 540 MW of wind energy. Developed and implemented an emissions reduction program for the existing coal fleet. Investments of $350 million resulted in 50% reduction in nitrogen oxides, 60% reduction in sulfur dioxide, and 65% reduction in mercury emissions. Responsibilities included participating on merger and acquisition project teams and completing due diligence of potential generation assets.

Adjusted the startup and variable cost for the fleet, the change resulted in a significant increase in turbine utilization and established the turbines as a reliable part of the generation portfolio. While performing this function I was asked to startup a new group for the company to focus on improving outage execution and construction project management. Significant strides were made in better identifying risks to schedules and in identifying contingency plans for those risks.
