About Steven Brummer

Currently working at the University of Michigan in Academic Human Resources as a Senior Labor Relations Representative. I assist in the administration of the Graduate Employees Organization's collective bargaining agreement as well as the agreement that covers the University's Librarians, Archivists, and Curators (LEO-GLAM). This includes reviewing contract language, developing relationships with the purpose of solving problems collaboratively, working in small committee groups to address large, wicked problems, running grievance hearings, drafting responses to special conferences, and participating during arbitration hearings. As a school board president, treasurer and trustee I oversaw the budgetary process from start to finish every year of my tenure. In 2015, I worked closely with the administration and the board to pass balanced budgets, increase transparency, evaluate in-house and outsourced services, and worked to set negotiating parameters for employee groups. I also sat on many interview panels for different employee levels and participated in employee discipline hearings. My experience as an executive board member of a union local has given me experience in many employee discipline hearings, negotiating with city managers, and a State-appointed emergency manager. Between the two posts, I have a very strong appreciation for the processes set in place by management and unions, for fairness and equity.
