Colleagues describe him as "Steve was my command Sergeant Major in 2004-05. I was privileged to have served with him. He was the senior enlisted Marine at VMFA-112 in Fort Worth. We were assigned to get our reserve unit mobilized and deployed to the South Pacific for the first time since WWII. This was quite the task. But under Steven’s leadership we pulled off an amazing and smooth deployment including operational exercises in Japan, Australia and Guam in support of the Global War on Terrorism. Though under great pressure and demand at times I never saw Steve lose his bearing or poise. He cherished every Marine as his own child. A further success was that all Marines and assets returned home safely. Steve was a pleasure to work with and for. He is a dedicated family man and one of great character. I count it a pleasure to call him friend."
