I earned my Environmental Science degree from The Ohio State University with a focus in Water Quality and Quantity. This education gave me a comprehensive understanding of regulatory processes and environmental compliance as it applies to the operation and development of many types of businesses. Throughout school and my professional experience, I’ve gained knowledge in AutoCAD, GIS, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word, as well as in environmental testing procedures and equipment. When I taught HHEI and HMFEI while with the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (OEPA), as well as when I’ve testified as an expert witness in several high-profile court cases including testifying in front of a U.S. Senate subcommittee my public speaking skills were essential. My problem-solving skills, complexity of thought, technical writing skills, and ability to work collectively have also proven beneficial in my field. Throughout my entire career I’ve worked primarily in the Energy and Mining Sectors; in which I currently lead environmental programs in the midwest for solar, wind, and battery storage projects to provide specialized expertise to ensure cost effective environmental solutions for NextEra Energy Resources. I manage and coordinate permitting and compliance of utility scale projects from conception through closure. These projects include but are not limited to siting and development permitting/ compliance and environmental permitting/ compliance under Sections 10, 401/404 and 402 (NPDES), floodplain/ floodway, cultural resources, and threatened and endangered species surveys and issues. My knowledge, as well as my interpersonal skills, allows me to develop a sound framework for management; I collaborate with consultants, colleagues, regulators, and legal counsel on project-specific details while working through regulatory and compliance issues for daily and future operations. Furthermore, my prior work with American Electric Power, Westmoreland Coal Company and the Ohio Coal Association Environmental Committee, as well as my prior experience with the OEPA, allows me to preemptively evaluate what the regulatory community will expect and require out of a project so that we can determine what is in the best interest of the company, the client, and the environment.
