About Steven Epling

I've given a lot of thought to what motivates me. While there are various rewarding aspects of work, one stands out as the primary; I love to produce. I thrive on improving processes and sticking to great ones. One of the most rewarding parts of my job is helping employees to achieve their goals and realize their potential. Along the same lines, identifying the strengths (and challenges) of each individual on my team is as important as having a clear recognition of my own strengths and limitations. Knowing and understanding who you work with is an essential part of creating a culture of productivity. My main objective in my current role and in consulting is to help create a culture where employees are happy, positivity reigns and high productivity is the norm. Feel free to ask me how.

Owner and Operator of the Naked Falls Recreation Area. In 2016 this area was closed to the public by the new owner. I worked with them to purchase the land and re-opened the day use area in July of 2017. After about a year of working with the Skamania County planning department, I secured a permit to restore camping to the area which had been banned by the county back in 2006. It has been a labor of love to restore my childhood swimming hole and my favorite place on earth for our friends and neighbors to enjoy once again. I continually work with members of the community to improve the camping and day use experience, protect the natural habitat and restore the forest to full health and sustainability.

  • Onpoint Community Credit Union
    Assistant Collections Manager
Onpoint Community Credit Union Dec 2010 - Nov 2014
    Portland, Oregon Area
I oversaw the loss mitigation team at OnPoint. I had an incredibly talented and experienced staff. I had the privilege to work with them in bankruptcy, repossession, small claims, charge off recovery, loan modification, short sales, and foreclosure. I also managed the vendor relationships necessary to function efficiently. Outside of managing individuals and relationships, I was responsible for financial forecasting, trend analysis, monthly and yearly reporting and performance reviews, and keeping up to speed on the ever changing world of regulations.
  • Rainier Financial Group
    Collections Manager
Rainier Financial Group Apr 2008 - Nov 2010
    Midvale, Ut
At RFG I created the collections department and directly trained and managed a staff of 6 on my legal team. I also oversaw part time collectors in each of the 20 branches. I built up their collection program (which was in the red at the time) by implementing more than just policies and procedures, but rather an entire philosophy and culture around collections. Those strategies increased revenues from collections by 400% the first year. The second year I took on management of bankruptcy and I brought on small claims. With the help of my legal team by the time I left the small claims alone made up about 10% of total company revenue. Aside from team management, I was responsible for charge off reporting, monthly and annual performance evaluations, trend analysis, and forecasting.
  • Wells Fargo Financial
    Collector Iii
Wells Fargo Financial Aug 2005 - Oct 2007
    Vancouver, Wa
I was on the Spanish team at Wells so I collected on all products which I credit with providing me with well rounded and widespread experience in collections. By my second month there I lead the team in productivity across all statistics. Early on I was utilized for new hire training and assisting collectors whose productivity was a low. Sometimes management assigned me to someone but often my team mates reached out to me for advice. I was also asked by management to write up collection procedures, tips, and best practices. During my time there I also recommended to management a change in their incentive program that when implemented resulted in over a million dollar increase in productivity for the center.
