About Steven Smith, Csp, Ohst
I am a motivated self-starter that specializes in building relationships between people. I believe that positive relationships between people is the basis for individuals, groups, or companies to come to a common ground where the good of those involved trumps "the bottom line". I am a firm beliver that if you have good people, you have a good work environment, if you have that, productivity and efficiency goes up, if efficiency goes up, incidents go down. This is why I chose HSE as a career, to coach people on how to get better results not only at the point of contact but also five years down the road when they are supervisors themselves, coaching and being a mentor to "the new guy". If you want to be effective, it all boils down to, "Are you a manager, or are you a leader?"

Corporal
During my time as a Marine, my primary job was a personnel clerk. In this capacity I performed personnel and general administrative duties utilizing manual and automated information systems to prepare documents, maintain personnel records and input, audit, and retrieve pay and personnel information. As such, I had knowledge of the Marine Corps Total Force System (MCTFS), which encompasses the on-line Diary System (OLDS), and the Unit Diary/Marine Integrated Personnel System (UD/MIPS). Some of my typical duties included: auditing and making entries in individual service records; auditing service records for required entries and documentation; completion of various personnel and pay related forms and documents; researching proper unit diary entry requirements; reporting transactions into MCTFS via the unit diary; auditing and correcting feedback reports from systems; preparation of individual pond and allotment requests; and performing other duties pertaining to pay and personnel administration as required. Other duties and tasks performed often overlapped those performed by administrative clerks, which included preparation of naval correspondence and maintenance of correspondence files and directives as per SECNAV Instructions. During my time in the Corps I also served in the legal department at DPAC Camp Lejeune. In my 8 month tenure, I processed out 246 Marines for reasons of misconduct. At the end of that tour, 6 Marines including myself, processed the paperwork of 500+ demobilizing Marines.
