CNBC Arabiya is the preeminent business news channel in the Middle East. Appointed at a time when the channel was approaching its fifth anniversary and in need of a new strategy, I set about to re-establish stakeholder relevance and shareholder value by entirely redesigning the programming, on-air output, as well as front and back office operations. As CEO, I accomplished the following toward that end: • Developed and implemented a successful new vision and business strategy for the channel • Consolidated CNBC Arabiya’s position as the market leader in business television by significantly enhancing the channel’s relevance and reach • Restructured and reorganised the company with a view to ensuring the long term financial success of the channel and increasing profitability • Devised and led a total re-launch of the channel, including a redesign of on-air appearance, and new programming which broadened the channel’s demographic reach and expanded viewership • Streamlined and reduced internal and external operations budgets • Brought in new business and advertisers, broadening the revenue base • Increased channel distribution in households, commercial properties, hotels and airlines • Devised numerous successful creative marketing solutions including product placement and paid programming • Reduced headcount in head office and international bureaux while streamlining operational and production capacity • Supervised and implemented editorial and technical style guides while enhancing staff training programmes • Decreased staff turnover to an all-time low Responsibilities included: Overall Channel Vision, Strategy, Planning, Development and Implementation.
