As Sergeant I acted as night administrator over a prison containing a population of over 2K inmates. I held command of more than 50 correctional officers and two other Sergeants. I assigned posts daily and underwent intensive leadership classes and HR training. I supervised and impartially advocated in disciplinary hearings in the event of grievances and cases between officers and inmates. Ensuring that all inmates were clothed, fed and hygienic, I kept an accurate running census of all offenders and staff. I took inventory and bagged offender property for transit and performed routine nightly searches for contraband. To ensure the safety of all offenders while in state custody, I performed frequent Offender Protection investigations I conducted internal investigations into any accusations or suspicions regarding officers engaging in criminal activity or inappropriate relationships with offenders. I stood in as an expert witness on several cases in the defense of TDCJ on Use of Force grievances. I interviewed offenders and assigned appropriate jobs and positions for inmates.
