My daily duties include the start-up and shut-up of process utilities including a Watkins steam boiler, my Process responsibilities include charging acid and biomass to a pre-treatment vessel where they contacted so that natural alkalis elements within the biomass are neutralized. I charge and operate a de-watering screw and a belt dryer to further prepare the biomass for feeding to the process reactor. I operate the reactor and condenser system via DCS system, here the biomass is contacted with superheated steam; this is where the product sugars are released from the biomass. Over the last two years, NPT have made various process changes which have seen new and improved equipment brought to site. I have been actively involved in this work, where I have worked on the removal of redundant equipment and supported the team with the installation and commissioning of the new plant and equipment. This has included moving equipment into place using forklifts, nut and bolt disconnection and installations. Commissioning work has included line walking and checking the installed equipment against the P&ID, marking concerns, and communicating these to my line manager and site engineers. I have also led some tasks including the belt dryer infeed upgrade and the improvements to the reactor and condenser, supporting the control engineer with operational insight and testing support. Other skills include risk assessments, and leading dynamic risk assessments when on shift.

I worked for Seqens, formally Chemoxy at the All Saints Refinery in Middlesbrough, my duties included the loading and unloading tankers, filling IBC’s and metal drums with the desired chemicals and making sure they’re ready to be loaded into containers ready for shipment. I was also a member of the works rescue team, which involved being on stand-by when any major maintenance is being undertaken.

I worked as a Deltio Operator at Venator which is a top tier COMAH site and a leading global manufacturer of Titanium Dioxide (TiO2) based in Hartlepool.The Pigments we produced are used in day-to-day products such as paints, coatings, ceramics, inks, paper and plastic production, we also produce a range of TiO2 grades which are designed for the formulation of food, pharmaceutical, cosmetics and sun cream. These specialist pigments all comply to the strict global purity and safety regulations.

I worked at Exwold Chemical which is a top tier COMAH site based in Hartlepool which specialize in formulating and processing herbicides, pesticides and fungicides. We use several procedures such as granule production where we coat a granule; sepiolite with a trilate which is used as a herbicide. We also use powder blending where we blend a number of chemicals to a precise formula which produces a product which controls Avian Influenza (bird-flu) The product contains a powerful oxidizing agents which when become wet react to produce chlorine gas. I also spent time working on the extrusion plant extruding a fungicide from powder form into a granule.

I worked at R&R Ice Cream as a Process Controller, my duties included using the Scada system to control the cleaning of all silos, freezers and freezer lines using a dilute caustic. I also spent time on the plant manually bleeding lines, checking the caustic levels, taking product and water samples, and doing manual checks on the silos to ensure that they are clean and ready to be used again. I tested the water for its cleanliness, and to make sure its caustic free after we've cleaned it. I was also responsible for testing the products for their fat, solids and Ph content to make sure that the industry standards are met and are safe for human consumption.

I was working as a supply teacher in and around my area through Keystage Recruitment. Whilst I am working as a supply teacher my duties involve following the lesson plan and conducting the class and making sure the students keep a normal lesson atmosphere as to keep a familiar learning environment.

I worked as an air brusher at Flawless Studios on a part time basis. My duties involved receiving around 30 photos of each person or group in different locations and airbrushing them, removing any blemishes and adding different effects to the photos to leave them with a professional looking portfolio and also a flawless complexion.

I was employed at Room for Design as a Graphic Designer and was required to see a number of design projects through from an initial concept to a finished project, working alongside clients to develop ideas and find the best solution from their brief. I worked on various projects including advertisements, posters,business cards, letterheads and all kinds of brochures and pamphlets. I was required to liase with clients and develop a rapport with regular customers, with the ability to interpret their initial ideas.

I re-joined Active Media after finishing my degree, i was involved in designing and re-designing adverts for the free local newspaper ‘the circuit’, I also helped to set the articles and build up the paper to its finished state.
