Steven J. Barela (@StevenJBarela) specializes in interdisciplinary project management and scholarship that aims to tackle complex global security problems—e.g., digital disinformation and “fake news,” armed drones, LAWS, interrogational torture and counterterrorism. In practice, this means building and managing teams to research and integrate law, philosophy and science to formulate sound security policy proposals. On top of publishing three books using such methodology (one monograph and two edited), Barela has been the Editor of the #MéndezPrinciples on #EffectiveInterviewing which integrates science, law and ethics to shift police and security service practices from coercive interrogation to rapport-based interviews.Today, he works to launch the startup CERTIFY which aims to build integrity in the online information ecosystem — i.e., tackling “fake news.”
