Profile bio

About Steven Schmidt

I have a diversity of interests. My undergraduate degree was Physics at BYU, and I still identify more with Physics than I do the other disciplines of Engineering and Computer Science, which I have also studied. Something about how physicists think - they're more right-brained I think, than most engineers. I did a masters degree at the University of Utah in what I describe as Scientific Computing, (but which was called Computational Engineering and Science) where I worked with a research group studying the Material Point Method (MPM). Afterwards I returned to BYU and completed a PhD in the Civil Engineering department doing research on Unstructured Splines, or U-splines, a development of splines that are built on unstructured meshes for use in CAD and FEA software applications. My dissertation may be found at this link: https://scholarsarchive.byu.edu/etd/9450/I am looking for interesting work, not necessarily related to my previous experience. I'd like to do macOS development, as I've always loved the Mac platform. I'd like to find fascinating mathematical- or physics- or engineering-related work. I'm interested in learning more about general-purpose-GPU programming or computer graphics. I want to work for a company that really cares about good user interface. My programming languages of choice include C++, Julia, Python, Fortran. Languages I've used in the past include Objective-C, Java, MATLAB, Mathematica. I'm up for learning new programming languages. I hear Rust is super cool and worth learning.Do you think I'd fit your company? Send me a message!

Listed skills include Simulations, Physics, Scientific Computing, Troubleshooting, and 12 others.
