About Steven Leech

I am an innovative and multi-disciplinary researcher specialising in the value, curation and management of historic places. I have recently submitted my PhD thesis, which is an extensive ethnographic project focused on the mediation and production of Cold War heritage in Britain. I also have experience working on nationwide AHRC research projects, including ‘Valuing the Historic Environment’, which provided expert advice and academic knowledge to the Scottish government and statutory heritage bodies for a policy review into the historic environment. Currently, I am working as Content Developer at the Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester. This includes research, interpretive content and copywriting for a major new exhibition, Electricity: the Spark of Life. I have a track-record of providing high-quality content and interpretation for exhibitions, heritage sites and arts festivals. In the past, I have worked with organisations across the arts and heritage sector in a range of national independent and university-based museums, including the Greater Manchester Police Museum and the Whitworth Art Gallery.

We work to develop innovative, engaging and sustainable partnerships with cultural organisations. We invest in long term sustainable partnerships with the organisations we work with, and focus on responding to the needs. We have strong ties to the North West where we have networks of local artists, small and large cultural institutions and academics within the universities.
