Immunologist with over 20 years of experience in cellular assay development, animal models of disease, and laboratory management. In my academic career, I was a leader in the study of the killer function of B lymphocytes against T helper cells. A subset of B lymphocytes (mucosal B-1 cells) kill through the Fas ligand pathway, which in part is mediated through the release of exosomes. The unique biology of these cells suggests that they are important in immune tolerance toward self-antigens, allergens, and commensal microbes. My main academic achievements include successful mentorship of two PhD candidates and many undergraduate students, postdocs and technicians. Basic biological studies in mice as well as multiple clinical collaborations led to publication of over 50 peer-reviewed articles and invited reviews. My industry experience includes analytical method validation, antibody discovery and preclinical evaluation of engineered multi-specific immunoglobulin constructs for efficacy against cancer and safety in vitro, as well as interpretation and reporting of in vivo data from CRO partners for IND filings.
