Steven is a freshman at the University of Illinois, majoring in Systems Engineering & Design. He also plans on pursuing a minor in Computer Science, Technology & Management, and an International Minor in Engineering.Steven centers his passions around two words: Unite, and Connect. He believes that the key to innovation, success, and the next generation of technology lies in the ability of an individual to bring together people from diverse backgrounds and walks of life. As a result, he sees school as more than learning; he sees his studies as an opportunity to form common ground with a future partner or friend.Last summer, Steven interned at Gas Technology Institute, a major company in the field of energy utilization, working with his team on a project that improved coal gasification processes for energy plants in China, where low quality coal that is high in sulfur is abundant. Prior to that, he interned at a startup in Beijing that utilized Machine Learning in the geomapping industry. There, he was exposed to programming user-friendly interfaces, going out for sales, and translating documents from Chinese to English. He speaks three languages: English, Chinese Mandarin, and Japanese.Steven is only a freshman, but is hungry to get himself out there.
