My involvement in technology development projects in the EP space has given me an opportunity to refine my procedural skills in ways that have helped me to succeed in the most challenging clinical cases. In 2011 began working on novel neuromodulation technologies and techniques to treat heart failure. I developed a device to treat vasovagal syncope and became involved in a number of collaborative projects for vagal nerve stimulation. More recently I have become very involved in sympathetic modulation as a potential target of her failure. Since 2010 I have focus most of my R&D efforts on pulsed field ablation technology development and understanding optimization of therapy waveforms. -

My principle duties are to delivering care to veterans with clinical arrhythmia and manage the staff and administrative elements for our growing program. We currently offer pacemaker, ICD, CRT, and SQ ICD implantation on site and much of the longitudinal device management for a Iowa and western Illinois, Wisconsin, and some parts of Missouri. Since 2014 I have taken the lead to expand local VA capabilities to also provide catheter-based EP procedures. Starting in Q1 2019 we will begin performing EP studies and ablations in our current cath lab while awaiting the construction of the dedicated EP lab in 2020.

I founded the company officially in 2012 when I licensed my own patent from the University of Iowa. Very quickly the company grew and the early preclinical work attracted substantial investment, including early investment from Boston Scientific. I was acting president and CEO until I was able to attract a more experienced industry executive (Allan Zingeler) to join the company and take the helm. I stepped down to become the Chief Science Officer of the company for a short period and left the organization after the company relocated from Iowa City to its current location in Menlo Park California. -

I also lead an independent project to evaluate transvenous access to the pericardial space and feasibility of implanting epicardial pacing leads by this approach.
