About Steven Naftel

I have spent 25 years in academia, as a graduate student and post-doctoral researcher. I have been involved in 54 publications, including 2 Theses and 3 Book Chapters. I have also presented 11 talks and 32 posters at international conferences. In addition I have written 19 technical reports and 2 Instruction Pamphlets. My current specialty is: Synchrotron Radiation Techniques in Physical Anthropology most recently acquiring the skills of an osteologist. I am hoping to become a Professor of Physical Anthropology or work in Cultural Resource Management.

    Trace Elements in Bone Diseases: This project seeked to investigate whether the concentration distribution of elements in diseased bone can be used as a fingerprint of a disease process. Using Synchrotron Radiation X-Ray Fluorescence Mapping of mainly transition metals in bone samples. The bacterial diseases studied for the thesis did not have pathoneumonic characteristics however, several unique distributions of elements were identified and should be studied further.
