I was an executive in the corporate finance team that advised on the following transactions: Sanlam on disposing its Absa stake, Old Mutual on its BEE transaction, Transnet on their Financial Strategy (I'm not saying they took our advice!) and Discovery Life.

I ran Deutsche Bank's European Banks team, comprising research and trading. I gained valuable experience in the European banks and financial services industry as well as engaging with leading asset managers, hedge funds, pension funds, sovereign wealth funds and investment banks.

I ran Deutsche Bank's Global Banks Equity Research teams that included all our bank analyst around the globe, spanning from New York to Tokyo. It was a fascinating opportunity to learn about the different banking and financial systems around the world. A core project was to standardize accounting treatments to produce comparable financial statements and valuation metrics. across the globe.

I started my career as an equity analyst, covering the JSE listed banks, insurers and asset managers. This was a fantastic opportunity to learn about South Africa's financial services industry. I was involved with the demutualization of SA's two large mutual companies, Sanlam and Old Mutual and also participated in corporate finance and capital raising transactions. Another highlight was helping advise Africa's largest bank Standard Bank in their defense of Nedbank's hostile (Unsolicited) takeover attempt. I then ran equity research where Deutsche was ranked #1 in South Africa during this period.
