Steve Peer is president of Peer Interests LLC a diversified real estate development company that invests its own capital in value-add real estate projects across the United States. Steve is currently or has recently been a first trust lender on projects in Montgomery, Tampa, Edwards Colorado and Erie. Prior to forming Peer Interests, for 22 years from 1988 to 2011 Steve served as a partner and president of Cafritz Interests. Steve's work with Cafritz was in all areas of real estate development including office buildings (Washington Harbour, 1775 Eye, 717 14th Street, 409 12th Street, 5010 Wisconsin Avenue), hotels (2500 Penn, The Quincy) industrial properties (Riverside in Allentown, Pennsylvania and Odenton Crossroads in Maryland), resort condominiums (the Thunderhead Lodge in Steamboat Springs, Colorado), student housing (2040 Lofts in Milwaukee) and assisted living (the Palmer Club in Sarasota, Florida). Steve works in the private sector as well as with government agencies (including the 850,000 square foot Security West Building in Baltimore, Maryland which was occupied by 4,000 employees of the Social Security Administration and leased by GSA and is now being converted to a data center). A graduate of St. Lawrence University magna cum laude in 1978 with a double major in economics and psychology, Steve worked in New York with TIAA-CREF for two years before entering the University of Virginia where he earned an MBA at the Darden School in 1982. After his graduate education Steve worked for Hines Interests in Houston and then Atlanta for five years. Steve moved to Washington in 1987 as a vice president with The Kaempfer Company where he managed the development of 1201 New York Avenue. Steve was the founder and president of the Build-A-Future Foundation, a 501c3 that worked with high school students to renovate low income housing in the District of Columbia, and has been on the board of directors of Rebuilding Together/Christmas in April and on the board and treasurer of The University Club.Specialties: Steve specializes in value-add real estate development, bringing vision, expertise and management skills to find, design, finance, develop and manage all types of real estate projects.
