Maintain and operate the City’s hydraulic water model in InfoWater (with EPANET Engine), project growth, identify system deficiencies, identify remedial solutions to resolve deficiencies, evaluate improvement alternatives and risks, assist in operational troubleshooting, plan and manage Capital Improvement Program projects, and utilize tools like Python, R, FME, GIS, and Power BI to perform advanced statistical analyses on large data sets, create custom simulations, and create visualizations for cognitive efficiency.Developed a risk assessment simulation model (RASM) that combines hydraulic and statistical modeling techniques to quantify and mitigate risks associated with temporary shutdowns of critical water distribution facilities. The RASM was developed in Python and reads the Fire Department’s building fire event data set from the Open Data Portal, generates probability density functions to model building fire occurrence in each geographic fire station area, and executes an object-oriented discrete event simulation to create geocoded build fire events. The output is paired with hydraulic model output to identify vulnerabilities (with respect to firefighting capacity) under various operating scenarios.Developed a machine learning model to predict water main failure rate and guide replacement planning. FME was used to merge, transform, and clean spatial and non-spatial datasets, including water main shapefiles, hydraulic modeling output, soil rasters, and failure history data. Python (specifically, a random forest algorithm from the scikit-learn library) was used to statistically analyze water main failure rates and label individual water mains in the model training and test sets. GIS was used to calculate a prioritization score for each water main given its assigned failure rate and consequences of failure (i.e. assumed social and regulatory impacts of failure). Model output was optimized in GIS for efficienct visual processing of prioritized water mains.

The resulting model was calibrated and validated to 0.3-ft accuracy using paired-t confidence interval testing, root mean squared error, and index of agreement validation techniques.Managed the City's Sanitary Sewer Evaluation Study (SSES), Flow Monitoring, and Hydrologic Modeling Programs in support of the Management Operation and Maintenance Program.
