Steven S. Warner Ed.D. is a Vice President, Resource Development and Executive Director of the Foundation at Polk State College. Thankfully I earned a job as a student assistant in Dr. Warner’s office. Whenever I had questions or concerns or needed assistance navigating the university process, I knew his door was always open, and he was willing to offer advice. Having worked in his office, I witnessed his selflessness first hand. I observed as he extended himself and went the extra mile to ensure that the students were well served. Throughout that time, I gained enormous respect for Dr. Warner, and today I often mirror much of his leadership style when helping students in my capacity as an educator. Not only is Dr. Warner an exceptional leader, and administrator, but he is personable, friendly, and approachable, which are qualities often missing in academic spaces today. One aspect of Dr. Warner’s leadership style I truly admire is his focus on building students and staff holistically. This is evident in his equal dedication to creating programs and opportunities that addressed the academic, social, and athletic needs of the student body. One annual event he hosted was the Caribbean day. All students eagerly awaited the day as it provided a chance for Caribbean students like myself to share our culture with the broader campus. Most importantly, it was a day when, as international students, we felt reminded that we were welcome and that we were recognized and valued members of the university’s community. "
