About Steven Schoen

My primary goal in life is to leave the planet just a little bit better than how I found it. I hope to find a career that allows me to achieve that dream, and that will enable me to support myself & my family with dignity.I grew up in California, then Delaware, and have lived in southern New Jersey since 2010. My life's passions are at their very heart, simple: I love to play video games, and have since I was 6 years old. I also love to play volleyball. I am an avid Pepsi drinker and proud bacon enthusiast.I have a keen eye for detail, and I am possessed of a fiercely competitive spirit. I love to help others with their problems. In my professional life, I've eagerly accepted every challenge ever presented to me. While most college students need a job to pay the bills, I've always tried to find the opportunities in every job I've ever had. I would frequently find myself in a state of contemplation, wondering exactly how far I could go in this company. Even if I was studying toward something diametrically different than my job at the time, I would still keep my mind open to the possibility that my part-time job could put me on the fast track to a life-long career. If you want to see what's inside the room, you can't just look through the keyhole; you have to open the door.

Steven Schoen Work Experience Details
  • Cumberlands County Schools
    Substitute Teacher
Cumberlands County Schools Sep 2010 - Jun 2013
I would fulfill substitute teaching positions on an as-needed, per diem basis. Ensuring the safety of all students through the execution of sound classroom management procedures was my top priority. Implementing the teacher's lesson plans while expressing the importance of the material through animation and effective oral communication kept the students engaged and focused. At the end of the day, a note summarizing the day's activities & accomplishments was left behind for the benefit of the classroom teacher. As always, I left the room in a neat & orderly fashion, as close to the condition in which I found it as possible (if not better).

  • Marshall'S/Homegoods
    Maintenance
    Marshall'S/Homegoods Jun 2008 - Sep 2008
    Wilmington, Delaware
I belonged to a team of openers who started their day at 7 AM sharp. My job was to change as many burnt-out fluorescent light bars as possible before the store opened for business. It was also my responsibility to dust the clothing racks so that they were presentable for the customers. Additionally, I was charged with cleaning the employee lounge once per week, which included sweeping the locker and lounge area, cleaning out the refrigerator, and wiping inside & outside the microwaves. Finally, I would assist with unloading trucks when needed.
  • Tuesday Morning
    Associate
    Tuesday Morning Oct 2007 - Apr 2008
    Wilmington, De
This position consisted mostly of unloading trucks, putting out new product, and straightening the shelves. I also operated a cash register. Furthermore, I participated in the storewide inventory process, which had us counting the stock for two days while the store was closed.
  • Tutor Time
    Teacher/Head Counselor
    Tutor Time Mar 2006 - Feb 2007
    Wilmington, Delaware
This job was a lot of fun. I worked primarily in the pre-kindergarten classroom, ensuring the safety of up to 15 children at any given time. On an average day, we would have our morning snack, then our morning circle time. After that, we'd spend some time outside unless it was too hot or too cold. Then it was lunch time. After lunch, the children would nap while teachers would swap in & out to take their own lunch breaks. Frequently, this would also be the time we teachers would write out daily reports (grams) for the children's parents. When quiet time was over, we'd sit down for our afternoon snack and circle time, and perhaps even go outside again if time & weather would permit. By 4 o' clock, parents would begin arriving to pick up their children and the teachers would set about cleaning up the rooms. In addition to my daily duties as a teacher, during the summer months, I served as head counselor for the center's summer camp program. As a part of this, I developed a large part of the summer camp curriculum from available materials. We would take weekly field trips to places like the Natural History Museum and the Franklin Institute. We also engaged in arts & crafts activities according to each week's theme.
  • Sears, Roebuck And Co.
    Mpu/Receiving
Sears, Roebuck And Co. Mar 2003 - Apr 2006
    Wilmington, Delaware
I learned a terrific amount from this job, and made several life-long friends. I worked "behind the scenes" unloading trucks and stocking backroom shelves. Keeping the loading dock, customer order bins, and pickup areas neat & orderly was also an everyday responsibility. We would perform carry-outs for large purchases at our merchandise pick-up (MPU) area, loading things like vacuum cleaners, televisions, and exercise equipment into customer vehicles. We also became responsible for unpacking and prepping fashions to go onto the sales floor, by stripping plastic, ink-tagging, and organizing. All receiving associates were also trained in bin inventory procedures.
