I have worked as a wheat breeding technician and contributed to the development of new plant varieties. During my employment at KWS, I have had the opportunity to perform various tasks such as sorting, organizing, cleaning, and harvesting plant trials. Additionally, I have assisted in cross-pollination efforts within a greenhouse setting and gained experience working with plant breeding data platforms. My role has provided me with the opportunity to hone my skills as a leader for seasonal interns during harvesting efforts.

As a Lab Technician at POET bioprocessing, I was entrusted with the responsibility of working independently and efficiently to set up laboratory equipment and perform tasks related to quality testing of samples. On a typical day, I conducted tests on quality samples using sophisticated equipment such as HPLC, IC, Karl Fisher, and NIR, ensuring that all tests were completed per the standard operating procedures (SOPs). I also performed mycotoxin scanning and yeast counting to evaluate fermentation health.My role also entailed analyzing water samples to maintain proper chemistry in cooling tower samples and boiler systems. If I discovered anomalies or deviations from product specifications, I promptly communicated the findings to the relevant departments, demonstrating my ability to work effectively as a team member. Additionally, I contributed to the creation of a safe work environment by assisting in in-plant cleaning and maintenance activities. I also carried out maintenance on laboratory equipment, including the replacement of HPLC parts, IC regeneratives, pH probes, and other components.As a testament to my proficiency, I became an on-site expert in creating PI Vision sheets, which facilitated the efficient retrieval and presentation of data. This enabled the laboratory and others to efficiently access data, making the lab a more successful and reliable department. In summary, my tenure as a Lab Technician at POET bioprocessing was notable for my ability to work independently, use sophisticated equipment, adhere to SOPs, and communicate effectively with other departments. I started my professional career as a formulation technician at Akorn, working in a pharmaceutical production environment. This experience taught me the importance of efficiency and integrity. My role involved following standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure that the products manufactured were of high quality, utilizing good manufacturing processes (GMPs) and good documentation practices (GDP). During my time at Akorn, I gained experience in formulating various types of pharmaceuticals, which gave me exposure to different formulation tanks. My duties included weighing ingredients, adjusting pH levels, and ensuring proper formulation by following correct procedures such as steaming and cooling. As I gained more experience, I was promoted to lead formulator on the second shift, where I also took on leadership and time management responsibilities.

During my time as a graduate assistant at EMU, I had the opportunity to teach introductory biology labs to undergraduate students. This experience allowed me to develop my skills in assisting students and helping them understand the course material. Additionally, I was responsible for holding office hours to provide any necessary support to undergraduate students. This role provided me with my first opportunity to lead and teach others.

During my time as a research technician, I was involved in every step of the process, from planting to harvesting, of regulatory field trials. This internship provided me with valuable exposure to agriculture research and the important responsibilities that come with developing crops that are more resistant and have higher yields. While working with Syntech, I got the opportunity to plant, evaluate, harvest, pollinate, apply Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) chemicals, and enter data. I also gained experience in operating farm machinery, assisting in maintenance, and constructing materials such as irrigation systems. Syntech deals with various crops and I was able to work with multiple plant species such as corn, soybeans, wheat, peppers, tomatoes, cabbages, squash, and melons.

During my internship at the Coles County Soil and Water Conservation District, I learned about the significance of forest ecology and biodiversity. As an intern, my primary responsibility was to assist in the removal of invasive plant species from the woodland areas. I gained knowledge about the native flora and fauna in Coles County and the best practices for removing invasives while preserving the healthy plant species in the area. I also operated equipment conservatively to cut, remove, and spray in a manner that allowed the native plants to reclaim the forest undergrowth. Additionally, I had the opportunity to log plant data and provide documentation to landowners about the types of plants in their woodlands. Overall, I enjoyed working in nature and interacting with fellow nature enthusiasts.

As a landscaper, I worked with my team on various client contracts. Our work mainly involved maintenance projects, such as mowing, pruning trees and shrubs, planting new plants, and trimming hedges. We also had the opportunity to work on landscape design projects, which allowed for team-building activities. Some of the designs we worked on included creating rock, rain, and flower gardens.

I learned concrete construction while working as a laborer. Together with my team, we built grain bin foundations from the ground up. My duties included manual assistance in moving construction parts and constructing concrete foundations. During this time, I also learned how to operate a forklift and the importance of teamwork.
